One of my favorite authors, Liz Curtis Higgs often shares the “Ta-da!” concept (not to be confused with Tada as in Joni and Ken).  Here’s a brief explanation of this concept from her website:

If you’ve heard me speak, you’ve probably learned how and why saying “Ta-da!” while grinning in the mirror is the best way to start the day. It reminds us that we’re made in God’s image, for his glory, and to his exact specifications. God definitely knew what he was doing the day he made you!

I awkwardly practiced “Ta-da!” for a time, but like many things, it has slipped out of my routine.  I think of it though every time I read Psalm 139:14 (NKJV)

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

It’s that line – and that my soul knows very well – that is my challenge.  Whenever I read that passage I respond with “Does my should know?”

I can say with conviction that people are made in God’s image and that is a wonderful thing.  Yet when I look in the mirror (or even without looking) my mind starts to tick off all my flaws.  That’s a sure indication that my soul is not saying “Ta-da!” and rejoicing in my Creator’s handiwork.

While spending time with our great niece recently we saw “Ta-da!” in action. When V would walk past the large mirror in our hotel room she would often stop to look (even though she could barely see above the frame).  Without fail every time she saw her img_3029reflection she squealed with glee and did a little dance of joy.  After watching her do this a couple of times it struck me.  V has the right idea; she is practicing Ta-da! without knowing it.

I pray she never looses that delight, and that as she grows her soul knows well what a wonderful creation she is.  And may she continue to (re)teach her great aunt how to live!

Ta-da!!!!!
